My Morning Jacket - Summer Tour III
Okay, this is the final photopost from Summer Tour 2010 because a) the tour is over, b) I'm running out of photos and c) you're probably getting tired of them by now. If you're looking for posts I and II, you can find them here and here. (For larger views, click on the shot.) Now, I have space to fill and here's some nice boys and bears to fill it. "Tower, we are cleared for takeoff." - Pooch Is My Copilot When going to San Francisco it really is best to wear some flowers in your hair.
I wouldn't leave you without a standard Jim shot.
 Getting Mile High
That Tom is rather elegant, I must say.
This is where I pretended I was at a Cure concert.
The most valuable treasures are the ones kept hidden. Or so I hear. I don't really hear that. I just made that up.
Hey lookit! Patrick didn't really spontaneously combust.
And the sun was bright that night we rode into town.
You are being watched... at all times. For some reason I am reminded of Nancy Drew. Airport time to say farewell. Labels: bo koster, carl broemel, denise, jim james, mmj, music, my morning jacket, patrick hallahan, pooch, summertour, tom blankenship

My Morning Jacket - Summer Tour II
Here's another spate of photox from the good ol' My Morning Jacket Summer Tour. If you're looking for part I, it's here. Part III is here. We laughed, we cried, we finally got Denise into a permanent dress. Thank God because that nudist thing was not working for me. Once again, click the pics to see them in a larger state. Steal the pics and they will haunt your dreams. The lads are in Pittsburgh tonight with my favorite tall person Daniel Martin Moore opening. I am so full of sadness not to be there. "I heard there was a party here? I am ready to party!" - Denise. This is one of those Spinal Tap moments. Spontaneous drummer combustion. You've heard of it, right?
Does the cape make the man? Is that an Omnichord I see? No. Really. Is it? Maybe I ought to pop over to the MMJ forum and ask... You know those slidey puzzles where you make a picture? That's what this looks like. It also looks like some hands. "My Carl." I love when the boyos seem happy onstage. Not that they aren't generally but, well, you know what I mean. Tom the devil. I know I'd sell my soul... oh wait. Chi-town was the best show of (my part of) the tour. Those peeps always bring it. No man and no bear, apparently, can escape the wand of the TSA. Denise is rather huzzah! about the whole thing. I must say, if I wore a donkey mask through airport security I bet they'd make me take it off. Such is the power of Pooch. I'll be back on Monday with Volume III. Actually, I'll be back before that, on Sunday, with Emmy live blogging. The snark part of my brain better get in gear sometime in the next 48 hours. See you groovy gals and guy soon.

My Morning Jacket - Summer Tour I
I have way too may photos for one blog post so I'm going to spread it out over three... or four. I cut and re-cut and I'm not saying my little picts are the greatest or anything but it was just too hard to keep taking stuff out. So here you go... ten days on tour in ten shots vol i. If you click on them they get bigger! If you steal them, they get mad. "Why heggo!" says Pooch.
I swear more people came to that Los Angeles Greek show. Carl has, like, the best hair. He also has a record that comes out next week. I'm kind of fond of this photo. I'm not sure why. Probably because I have 90000000 pictures of Jim doing the same thing (singing, I guess, go figure) and in this one he is... not. The boys that come from Kentuckyland. Patrick... doing Patricky things. Tom... who should not be looking at his nice wife like that. I often think Bo is the most photogenic member of the band. Another new fave of that Jim guy. Okay, I don't want to make any cheesy "Stairway" jokes but I swear Jim is ascending here. I hope you have enjoyed this offering. More to come tomorrow time. If you're looking for part II, you can find it here. Part III is here. Labels: bo koster, carl broemel, jim james, mmj, music, my morning jacket, patrick hallahan, pooch, summertour, tom blankenship

Holy Cow - MMJ at Terminal 5 Edition
Pooch is here to welcome you to the good times ahead... So, remember I said I was actually excited about something and how rare that is and yes you get the picture. This is full on bananatown, I must say. My Morning Jacket will take to the stage at Terminal 5 in New York City for five nights starting October 18th and ending on October 23rd. Each show will be dedicated to one of the band's full length studio albums in chronological order... so, The Tennessee Fire, At Dawn, It Still Moves, Z, and Evil Urges will all be performed from start to finish and goodness gracious, this has never happened before! I've seen hundreds of MMJ shows and they'll be performing songs I've never seen. After the album is finished, the guys will play a mix of favorites from their catalog (and some covers, mayhaps?). All of the dates will go on sale as individual shows on June 18th but for fans who want the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of experiencing all five shows, there will be a special pre-sale. Five show packages will go on sale June 14th. As per MMJ usual, each show will benefit a different charity with $1 of each ticket sold going to a different local organization: October 18 - The Tennessee Fire - Safe Haven of Pike County. October 19 - At Dawn - The Innocence ProjectOctober 21 - It Still Moves - 826NYCOctober 22 - Z - New York CaresOctober 23 - Evil Urges - Sustainable South BronxFor info on tickets, please visit Terminal 5's website. Hope to see you in the Big Apple! My camera will probably explode from the awesome sauciness. Labels: mmj, music, my morning jacket, new york, pooch, terminal 5

Thousand Words - MMJ At Sasquatch Edition
Here's some shots from My Morning Jacket's recent appearance at the most wonderful Sasquatch festival. Well, they aren't all pics of MMJ. I didn't take that many of the show because people kept yelling at me and I gave up. I hope you enjoy this small offering of photographic evidence. Pooch and Denise pose for some vacay shots
 Denise gets her show on
Tom is 75 ft tall. Or 11 as he told me when I showed him this shot.
I think I saw this in an 80s music video (and I mean that in the best way possible)
 Thoughtful Mr. Hallahan
 I'm pretty sure that's Jim
Thank you and goodnight! Well, that was fun. MMJ fans are going to be very excited come tomorrow afternoon. I mean, I'm even excited and that almost never happens. Until then...

Home Sweet Home (In a Non-Motley Crue Sort of Way)
Looks like we made it. I am surrounded by nothingness and the Law & Order SVU marathon on USA. USA is totally my new favorite channel. It was a good ride home. I'm a little disappointed in myself that I didn't watch Freaks and Geeks, but we did watch Bolt. That dog rules. I'm a little sad now that my dogs don't have the super bark. I'm too tired to report much else so I'll let this old photo of Pooch entertain you instead. Labels: bolt, film, law and order: svu, pooch, tv

My Morning Jacket at Ear X-Tacy: Pooch Gets In On the Action
Okay, I know that show was, what, two days ago? Feels like forever as I've been whiling away the time in Nashville while the band rehearses. However, I wanted to share a couple shots from the show with you. It's always nice to catch Jim in a smile. Also, this was one of the only shots I took that didn't look like merde. I'm so glad to find that Pooch bought a copy of the new record (see above). He is good supporter of band! Good Pooch! When Tom got back to the bus, he found this note on the windshield from their six biggest fans. It was pretty cute but I was too lazy to take a decent pic of it so now you get Tom looking grim while holding it in a bar at the Sheraton in Nashville. I'm reporting to you now from the wilds of Manchester, TN. Tomorrow night the lads take the stage at midnight for their Bonnaroo blowout... a show of stupendous proportions. Maybe I'll see some other bands so I appear more well rounded, as if writing about MMJ isn't the only thing occupying my time. But it is Evil Urges week after all! In my mind only, perhaps, but still. Toods, Ms. P ps. Thanks to stalwart MMJ guitar tech Rick Sanger for capturing Pooch in action. My Morning Jacket - Saturday at SNL
MMJ on SNL - "I'm Amazed""Evil Urges"Tom and I spent the early afternoon in Herald Square trying to find a black shirt with black buttons (so as not to clash with the black velvet jacket he wore). Thank G for H&M (my favorite store on earth!). If you ever wondered what bands are doing before performing on SNL, there's one example. An evening at Saturday Night Live is a long one (you arrive around 4 and are there for about nine hours). However, they are kind enough to provide you with good food, bread pudding, cheesecake and gelato (cookie dough gelato, no less!) The band went through another set of rehearsals (the first being on Thursday) that sounded great in the studio. I will admit (and am sort of embarrassed, but) I got a tad choked up when I watched them do "I'm Amazed." That song is purty good, I must say. From 8 - 10 they do a dress rehearsal with a live audience to run through all the skits and both band performances. It was quite interesting to see how things evolved from dress to the actual show, and I think they did a great job of cutting out the fat. My favorite bits of the night were the MacGruber series and Bill Hader's Italian talk show host. Say what you will about SNL's somewhat inconsistent nature, it's pretty awesome to watch the show come together and see how hard the performers work. They seem like a genial, close-knit bunch (I've read about how it's a pretty dog eat dog environment, but you don't get that feeling when you're there - at least not the parts I saw). Oh, I forgot to mention that Kristen Wiig and Fred Armisen warmed the crowd up with a cover of Blondie's "One Way or Another." She has a great voice, actually, which only makes her even cooler (if that's possible). She has that Suze Orman voice down... and who was in the audience for the live show but... Suze Orman!! I got to walk out next to Suze Orman!! She was pretty good natured about the skit. I did not ask her for investment advice or if Oprah is nice or anything like that. My Morning Jacket did really well, I thought. I figured I wouldn't be surprised having watched the whole process, but then they ended both songs with the stop-action thing (which they didn't in rehearsal) so that was pretty cute. Those boys know how to entertain. I think we were all (the wives) sort of nervous for them, but I don't know why - they've never not delivered in the hundreds of times I've seen them. However, this was probably their most high profile performance EVER. When the show is over, the cast, crew and loads of other people head to the after party and it was chock full of celebs (I admired Will Arnett from afar... I love that guy). I asked Bill Hader if he would do the LP Questionnaire, and he said yes so I'm excited about that. Will Forte told Tom he wants to go to Bonnaroo so maybe we'll see him again someday. I never talk to famous people, mostly because what on earth am I going to say, really? But also because I think if I was a famous type person, would I want me stumbling up like a moron going, "You're so cool. Tee hee. Can I steal your fork?" Probably not. So that is what it's like to spend a Saturday at Saturday Night Live. We got back to the hotel around 4.30 am. I haven't stayed out that late since... umm... yeah. I can't wait to go back to NYC next month for MMJ at Radio City Music Hall. They should dress up like the Rockettes. It was a good week, Ms. P ps. How great was it that Pooch made it into the band pics?! He was super happy. Labels: celebrities, mmj, music, my morning jacket, politics, pooch, saturday night live, snl, tv

My Morning Jacket - SNL Rehearsal
Our day started with a ride in an elevator with MSNBC anchor Contessa Brewer and her salad. I think I'm the only one who knew who she was because I watch MSNBC almost obsessively. She seemed genial, and I almost wanted to get off at her floor so I could go stalk my number 1 (okay, top 5?) celebrity crush, Brian Williams. On a side note, can someone please explain Chris Matthews' recent hair evolution? I was kind of enjoying the Schroeder look but now it's a strange bronze color. But I digress... It was interesting to be back at Studio 8H. I say this like I'm so blase but really, it's pretty groovy to see it all again. It's just as I remembered (and with my crap memory, that is kind of shocking). The last time I was there was with Beck in 1999 so it's been a while. I remember the first thing I saw then was Will Ferrell and Cheri Oteri walking down the hall in their Spartan cheerleading uniforms. I pointedly ignored them (because I'm cool like that, man) but inside was thinking, "Holy crap, that is so surreal. And cool!" However, that was then and this is... uh... now, and here are some random thoughts from the day: Shia LaBeouf seems like a nice guy. He held the door for me and told the band he really liked them. I saw him jumping around on a pogo stick while hordes of teenage girls (who must have been on a school tour) screamed and squealed at him through their viewing window. Bill Hader is freaking awesome and sweet. He introduced himself to Tom and me and told us about wearing jeans and a flannel shirt at the ACL fest and trying to see MMJ, but passing out because of the extreme heat (which, if you've been, you know is beyond insane). I had yet another "passing Will Forte" experience (last time was when I was here in 07, and he came out of an elevator I was getting on), which is a bit random (and probably creepy of me to be making note of these things). I also found out he lives on the same floor/same building as a friend of mine, and she says that he is a genial boy. MMJ got to do promos with Kristen Wiig, my favorite cast member so I got to watch her work for a few minutes. I'm not scooping anything because they started running last night, apparently, which I would have liked to see but NBC was out in our hotel. Hey, I just checked and it's still not working. Awesome. I saw Fred Armisen, who I once went on a date with about 900 years ago (ironically, I met him through one of Beck's backup singers... did I just botch the definition of ironic?). I did not make an a** out of myself by trying to remind him of this, though. It's great to see him doing so well as he is quite a funny guy. It's fascinating to walk the hallowed halls and read the signed photos of past hosts and musical guests. So much television history in one tiny place. More on Sunday... or Monday... whenever I've recovered as I'm sick but desperately trying to pretend I'm not. Today has us zigzagging all over the city and it's cold and rainy. Perfect, right? Good times, Ms. P Labels: brian williams, celebrities, chris matthews, music, my morning jacket, politics, pooch, saturday night live, snl, tv
